CMI – Continuous Mortality Investigation

A research project organised by the UK actuarial profession that collates mortality and morbidity data from UK insurers (and, latterly, from UK pension schemes) and produces mortality tables. The CMI has produced the mortality tables most commonly used for UK pension funds, including the ‘92’ and ‘00’ series tables, which were based on a relatively small set of data from pension schemes administered by insurance companies. More recently, the CMI has produced analyses of mortality in larger self-administered pension schemes (SAPS) and intends to publish SAPS mortality tables. CMI analyses are based on limited de-personalised data.

The CMI also developed the short, medium and long cohort adjustments.
